Hailed by The Times as "a player of real charisma", the award winning Saxophonist Sarah James graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2000. Her diverse career combines solo recitals and broadcasts with international orchestral and commercial productions.
Whilst at RAM Sarah was the recipient of many awards - including the RAM Final Recital award for 2 consecutive years - and the prestigious Meaker Fellowship in 2000. During the same year Sarah made her South Bank debut as part of the Park Lane Group Series. Further recital awards soon followed, including the Kirckman Concert Society and Fresh Young Musicians series at the Purcell Room, and performances at the Wigmore Hall and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. Further afield Sarah has performed at the Banff International Music Festival in Canada, and throughout South Africa, including broadcasts on SABC radio and television.
Sarah was a finalist in the Royal Overseas League International Music Competition, and as runner-up in the Australian Music Competition was featured on Australian Broadcasting Corporation television and radio. Other awards include the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, KPMG Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and the Hattori Foundation.
A keen advocate of contemporary music, Sarah has commissioned, premiered and broadcast new works
by many composers including Nigel Wood, Rhian Samuel, Phillip Cashian and Joe Duddell. As a
soloist she has been invited to give recitals at the British Saxophone Congress, performed live
on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune & Late Junction, on Classic FM, and at the BBC Proms.
